Definitely Made A Difference to Moderate Arthritis

I have a 10 year old rescue dog with moderate arthritis. Both the cold and humidity make life hard for him at times.the past 6 months he's been on daily carprofen and gabapentin. Even though he regularly did physical therapy for muscle strength plus laser treatments his pain levels were fairly consistent. I was concerned about the amount of drugs he was on and had heard about PEMF mats.
My research led me to Respond and even though it was pricey, it was a risk I was willing to take. Unfortunately our pet insurance doesn't cover 'magnet therapy' however I am thrilled to say that in around 12 days of daily use he is now on half the pain meds he was on previously. This to me is an absolute win. We use the mat every day and he doesn't mind snoozing on it at all. I put it on my bed and he lays on top coaxed in with a few snacks.he started at the low range for 30 mins. We are settling into an hour a day at medium. He seems to only tolerate the high dose for around 20 mins. We are experimenting to find the sweet spot. Overall im thrilled and astounded at the effect this device has had. We combine with a red light therapy pad sometimes too.
Even though my boy has only moderate arthritis its made a real difference to his quality of life. I'm glad we found it and already recommended to one friend with a geriatric dog. Half the medication is definitely a win in my book too!

Surprising

We purchased it for our dogs - one who keeps having a recurring stiff muscle in his leg. he's actually most afraid of it, and doesn't care to lay on it, but will tolerate lying the mat on top of him. The other dog will lay and fall asleep. Even one of our cats (Scottish fold with osteochondrodysplasia) will lay and fall asleep. No one seems worse for wear, so we're assuming it's helping!

I bought this product bc my pet's therapist had it and it seemed to attract other pet's as well. I bought it and must I say, my pet isn't thrilled about it, not one bit. I feel that the mat's pulse is very faint even with the test magnet in my hand. For the price of this mat, I'm not thrilled and I will be returning it

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How should the PEMF bed's coils be positioned for optimal use?

The PEMF bed is designed for the coils to be positioned at the bottom of the bed, closest to the floor, with the foam mattress between the coils and your pet for added comfort. However, it will work equally well with the coils on the top or bottom of the foam.

Can the PEMF therapy bed be placed under my pet’s regular bed or blanket?

Yes, you can place the PEMF bed under your pet’s bed or blanket as long as the combined thickness does not exceed 5 inches (12 cm). This will not impact the therapy's effectiveness.

Is it safe to use the PEMF bed inside a metal crate?

Yes, the PEMF bed can be used in a metal crate without affecting the therapy's effectiveness.

Will a metal collar affect the effectiveness of the PEMF bed?

No, a metal collar does not interfere with the therapy.

Can I use the PEMF bed while it’s plugged in and charging?

No, using the PEMF bed while charging can damage the battery and will void the warranty.

What happens if I use a non-Respond PEMF charger with the bed?

Using a non-Respond PEMF charger may damage the battery and void the warranty. Always use the designated charger.

Is it okay to fold the portable PEMF bed so that the coils are stacked?

No, folding the bed to stack the coils can cancel out the therapeutic field, preventing the therapy from working.

What is the proper way to clean the PEMF bed system?
  • Control Unit: Wipe with a damp cloth; never submerge in water.
  • Bed Cover: Remove the coils, foam, and wiring harness. Wash the cover in a gentle machine cycle with mild detergent, and air dry.
  • Coils: Disconnect the coils, clean with mild dish detergent, and air dry. Do not submerge the connector piece that attaches to the wiring harness.

How do I know when the battery is low?

A blinking red indicator light will appear on the control box when the unit needs to be recharged. Wait until the treatment is complete and then charge the unit for at least 3-horus for a full charge. You should get approximately 8 x 30minute treatments at a full charge.

Why can’t I feel a pulsing or magnetic field when I place my hand on the PEMF bed while it’s on?

The PEMF field generated by the Respond PEMF bed is not detectable by touch or feel. To confirm the bed is working, use the provided test magnet:

  • Hold the magnet near a coil while the unit is on.
  • You should feel a slight bumping sensation in the magnet as it pulses in sync with the magnetic field.
  • Note that the magnet will not “stick” to the bed like a traditional magnet would with metal.
What should I do if I can’t feel a pulse in the test magnet when the PEMF bed is on?

Follow these steps to troubleshoot:

  • Check that all connectors are securely attached to the control box and, if applicable, ensure all coil connections inside the bed are properly plugged in.
  • Ensure the unit is fully charged by charging it for at least three hours or overnight using the correct charger.
  • If the test magnet still doesn’t detect a pulse, contact our service team via email or phone for assistance.
Why won’t the power control unit stay on for a full treatment, even after being fully charged overnight?

This issue may indicate that the control box’s batteries need to be replaced, which typically occurs every few years. Please reach out to our service team via email or phone to troubleshoot. If necessary, the unit may need to be sent in for a battery replacement or repair.

What should I do if the PEMF bed's control unit emits a solid red light when turned on?

A solid red light on the control unit indicates a system error. To resolve this issue:

  • Ensure all cables and connections are securely attached.
  • Fully charge the unit using the original Respond PEMF charger.
  • If the issue persists, contact our customer service team for further troubleshooting. You may need to send the unit in for inspection or repair.
Which frequency setting should I use for my pet's first treatment?

Start with the lowest frequency setting, 5Hz, when using the PEMF bed for the first time.

What should I do if my pet is reluctant to use the PEMF bed?
  • Use the test magnet to confirm the bed is emitting a PEMF field.
  • For first-time users, the increased circulation might feel like a new sensation, such as mild pins and needles. Sit with your pet during initial sessions or place their favorite blanket on the bed for added comfort.
Why would my pet suddenly stop using the PEMF bed after previously enjoying it?
  • Test the bed with the magnet to ensure it is functioning correctly.
  • If your pet feels good that day with less pain or inflammation, they may not feel the need for treatment.
  • Adjust the frequency setting to match your pet’s evolving condition or consult your veterinarian if needed.
Can I use the PEMF bed if my dog has had metal plates/screws implanted after a surgery, such as a TPLO?

Yes! This is one of the most common uses of the PEMF bed system and very safe to use with metal implants or screws. Use the lowest frequency setting at 5pps.

How often can I use the PEMF bed per day and per week?

Most animals will benefit from 30-minutes of therapy 3+ times per week. Chronically sore and stiff animals with degenerative conditions may experience better results using the PEMF bed for 30-60 minutes daily.

My pet seems to really be benefiting from the treatments, what is the maximum amount I can use the PEMF bed?

When first starting to use the PEMF bed, only use it for 30-minutes per day, once daily so that the cells to not get overstimulated. Once your pet has adapted to the therapy, you can use it up to 60-minutes per day if the condition warrants.

Are there any conditions where PEMF therapy might not be recommended?

Consult a veterinarian before use if your pet:

  • Is undergoing cancer treatment.
  • Is pregnant.
  • Is under one year of age.
  • Has an electronic pacemaker or device.
If I have an electronic pacemaker, can I be near the PEMF bed?

Even though the PEMF field at this intensity should have no effect at all on a pacemaker, people with pacemakers should remain at least two feet away from the PEMF bed during operation to be extra cautious.

Can the PEMF device be used for pets with seizures?

Consult your veterinarian before using the PEMF bed on a pet with a seizure history. The underlying cause of seizures should be determined before starting therapy.

Is PEMF therapy safe for pets with heart arrhythmias?

While there is no contraindication for pets with arrhythmias, consult your veterinarian before starting PEMF therapy to ensure safety and effectiveness.
